TRAINING YOUR NEW PUP OR DOG

Training:
Although some of the dogs may have a main job like protection, obedience, or
whatever it may be; I feel they should be treated as pets.
One suggestion I have for everyone is
to do your homework, learn about the breed. It’s always ok to go to a reputable trainer when
needed. For the first time dog owner I recommend you and your pup take basic obedience
classes, some of you second, third, fourth, and fifth time dog owners need to take some classes
as well. Dogs learn by repetition the more something is done or said the easier it becomes for
the dog to understand what you want.
All my dogs learn the basics, I run threw them daily (come, sit, lay, stay), focusing more on one
thing more than others on certain days to make sure they have it all. Dogs are able to learn a
wide verity of words so invest into your dog by just spending quality one on one hands on time;
you will be amazed at what you and your dog will learn.

Some say what about heel? I feel all dogs or pups should walk at your side at all times unless they were told to be out front, that’s just me. The reason I say all dogs learn the basics is because it is just that the basics, the building blocks to any intended goal. One of my favorite reference books on the basics of dog training is The Koehler Method of Dog Training by William Koehler. A really good read!

WHEN TO START TRAINING YOUR PUP

When to Start:
Training starts as soon as you receive your new pup from the breeder. The first
thing I say to my new pup is “go potty” most likely I just picked up the new addition to my yard.
Better to use the bathroom outside then in the car and crate I’ll say. After that it’s pretty simple:
“come or let’s go”, if the pup comes great, if not simply go and pick the pup up and proceed to your car or on your way. I open the car and crate doors then say “crate or cage” then the pup is
placed inside and the door is closed. Already my new pup has begun to learn 3 new phrases:
“GO POTTY” “COME or LET’S GO” “CRATE OR CAGE”. Lol!!!

HOUSE TRAINING NoVACAIN Kennels STYLE

House Training:
This begins with the dam encouraging her pups not to soil in the bed. In a pen the pups will usually soil away from the bed on newspaper pup training pad or whatever you provide for them. One thing you don’t want is your pups associating newspaper with defecating. So it will be wise on your part to get the pups out in the grass on regular intervals, like after a meal or a nap. Never punish a young new pup for soiling in the wrong place. The most obvious sign that a pup needs to relieve themselves is circling in the same place or restlessness. Consistency is the key to successfully house training pups. One trick I use and find that works very well is the Door Bell trick. First I get the new pups used to pads by the door. Next I go out and buy some jingle bells and tie a lot of them on a string leaving enough string to hang around the door knob and low enough for the pup to reach. And that’s it. Each time a door opens that leads outside the bells will ring and your pup will hear this every single time. That pad that’s near the doors that lead outside is just extra safety for your floor. Pups are smart they will soon go to the door and tap the bells to let you know they need to go out. If you see your pup about to go with the normal signs they show pick them up and rush them outside. Oh yea the most important thing is get them use to you taking them outside potty early in training and the words you choose to use to let them know it’s time to go out and potty. Time to go out, Lets go potty, Do you need to go; something this will go a long way.
