A weight
pull competition tests a dog’s strength and stamina based on the dog’s ability
to pull a maximum amount of weight on a sled or cart over a prescribed distance
within a prescribed amount of time. Scores are based on the amount of weight
pulled and the amount of time required to complete the pull. The type of weight
vehicle may vary according to the surface of the pull area. Proper equipment is mandatory when weight
pulling. The most important part about
the training of your dog for weight pulling is allowing enough time to
condition the dog to weight pulling thoroughly before entering them into an
event. If you spent the hours and days slowly building your dog's muscles by
raising the weight they pull, they should be strong and able to pull by the
time you're ready to enter into an event. Find a weight pull in your area and
go check it out. When you get there ask
plenty of questions, and ask for advice on how to start your dogs training for
future weight pulling.
