Intense Workout "The Program"

THE PROGRAM

So lets began with the understanding that all dogs are different and so are their exercise and nutritional requirements; but most importantly we must agree that from the beginning we must start with a seemingly healthy dog. Not many people have the ability to condition a dog, it takes dedication, hard work, and a lot of time. I have spent a great deal of time with dogs over the years, of all calibers, which helped me formulate this 8 week program that will benefit the dog as well as the owner. Being able to properly build a bond by stimulating your dog mentally and psychically through feeding and exercising is a very task oriented and dedicated job.

The dog is walked everyday no matter rain, sleet, snow, or shine; its an extremely important part of the program. This tool burns fat, tones muscle, builds endurance, plus more but it takes "DEDICATION". After I walk/work my dogs in the evenings I give them a rub down from head to toe, then place them into their kennels with fresh water, in a clean water dish and allow them to rest for an hour. After that hour of rest they're fed and only feed once daily, this keeps the dogs on a regular stool cycle and I also try to get the dogs to empty out before a workout. If they must eat 2 meals feed 1/4 of the daily rations in the morning and 3/4 in the evening. I have learned that a full bellied dog when worked can and most likely become sick and weak and if the stomach is empty the dog will burn up its extra fat and begin to tone up.

6. Basic Rules to FOLLOW:

1. Take your time follow the guide and don't push your dog too hard when starting out.
2. If the dog seems to be losing too much weight, feed them more food.
3. If the dog seems to be gaining too much weight, feed less and walk/work more.
4. If the dog seems to be tired or not feeling good, rest them.
5. If you're lazy and don't walk/work your dog, he won't be in shape.
6. Take water out with you by week 5 or if its above 75 degrees and rest the dog if and when needed.

Tools you will need:

6 Foot Leather Leash - Or just a good 6 foot leash
Walking Harness - I don't use collars it can become harsh on the dogs neck.
Water Bowl/Bottle - Fresh water as well
Tennis Balls & Racquet - To run sprints and get your dog excited
Flirt Pole -
Quality Feed - I feed a Raw Diet so it is based off of the food I feed, if you feed kibble use that instead of the blends that are stated.
Clean Food Bowls - Wash daily
Bone Broth - To make Bone Broth place 2 pound of Beef Marrow Bones, 1 pounds of Chicken Feet, and 1 pounds of Chicken Necks into a 2-3 gallon pot. Add: 1-1/2 cups of Apple Cider Vinegar, 6 cloves of Garlic, 3 inch piece of Ginger, and then fill the pot up with water covering the bone with water             up to 2 to 3 inches above the bones. Cook over night on low (at least 12 hours)

For the first 4 weeks I do the following and follow this very closely, this is to pre condition the dog while getting you started in the right direction for what's to come, and this will take "DEDICATION" on your part.

The Vision Of Quality

Top quality is in the eyes of the beholder. You have to know what kind of dog you want. You must have a real vision of something in order to breed good dogs. See its not about just breeding dogs, but it's like molding clay into a sculpture that has very few flaws that's only really obvious to the artist that created it.

The Flirt Pole

A long history as being a conditioning tool for dogs, the flirt pole has been referenced in books as far back as the mid 1800's. It also has a long history as a conditioning tool with old time dog fighters nevertheless it has found a new and increased interest with people who love to keep their dogs in great shape. The flirt pole can be fun for any breed of dog which has any ounce of prey drive but especially with dogs of the Terrier and Working groups or any dog that is a mix of either.
The flirt pole is an outstanding tool for tiring out your dog when you don't have a lot of time or space, a small patch of grass or dirt + one flirt pole = one happy and tired dog.
Using a flirt pole as a part of your dogs daily exercise program allows the dog to use up a lot of energy while twisting and turning with quick sprints as well as working on eye and mouth coordination. It is highly important that you use common sense when working your dog with a flirt pole. An out of shape dog, one stuck in a crate or tied to a chain all day needs to be worked with a flirt pole; slowly increasing the amount of time you spend and the speed of chase. This will decrease the probability of your dog developing an injury like a blown knee or torn ligaments.
Most dogs love to chase period so there is no need to swing the lure at the dog, but away from the dog instead. If your dog has no desire to chase, first try using a different lure, then second you must be truthful with yourself and realize that your dog just may have a low prey drive and no desire to chase.  Never think hitting the dog in a teasing manner or flicking the lure in the dogs face will make them want to chase or bite at it. It will have the opposite outcome and one that you most likely are not ready for.
To reduce wear and tear on your flirt pole you should be using it to keep the lure away from the dog, not as a tug of war toy. If and when the dog catches the lure, go with the dog or drop the pole, and don't pull against the dog turning it into a tug of war game. As far as working puppies, I recommend that you wait to at least the pup is 6 months old. The two most important things I can tell you is first remember to always finish play time with the dog always wanting more and second  don’t overdo it because they won’t be as excited to play with it the next time you pull it out.

JUST KEEPING IT 100

As breeders the goal should be the betterment and preservation of a breed; yet I have noticed a trend within the American Bully community of destroying a breed as a whole and specific breed counterparts “types” at an rapid pace.

Now that I have you thinking you’re saying, what does he mean by betterment of a breed; this is what I’m saying. If you are doing this for the betterment of a breed you should be improving what has already been created great that made you get into the breed to begin with. Improving, improving, improving, to become better in quality, condition, and or value; not this craziness that has been going on and still is at an alarming rate with these animals being hoed out and dying with a drastically declined life expectancy.

Now you’re still thinking what is he talking about preservation; once again this is what I’m saying. We should be doing exactly what preservation means the GUARDING of the breed from danger, harm, or injury not this crazy deformation with the mixing of breeds, unethical breeding tactics to try and get ahead of the next man, and so much more that makes you stray far, far, far away from what made you want to get an American Bully in the first place.

Now for the ones that have no idea of what a trend is its described as a general tendency, movement, or direction; a current or latest fashion or mode. So for the American Bullies it would be as the shortest, widest, wildest looking new dog that hits the circuit and everyone flocks to get dogs from it or out of it with the superficial breeders, judgment becoming warped with only thoughts of huge profits.

Ok, ok, ok, I’ll choose to stop here cause some of you are getting salty so let me just say this; yes not all of the breeders are wrecking the American Bully and its counterparts in some way but there are many who are, so really look within yourself and yard and be 100; is there something or things that needs to be corrected that you’re willingly able to admit? I am and have and will continue to do so, I’ve thrown the rock at myself first hahahahhahahaha
