Steroid Use In Bullies...

IS THERE STEROID USE IN THE BULLY WORLD.........
I HAVE BEEN ASKED ABOUT THIS TOPIC SEVERAL TIMES AND YES I WILL ANSWER THE QUESTION.
THE ANSWER IS SIMPLY YES....THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF IT. IF YOU WONDER WHY SOME STUDS CANT PRODUCE DOGS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO THEM?
YOU WONDER WHY CERTAIN FEMALES LIKE BODEGA AND WICKEN FROM YEARS BACK NEVER HAD LITTERS???
WONDER WHY SOME STUDS WENT STERILE???/
WONDER WHY PEOPLE BOUGHT DOGS THAT WHERE HUGE AND WHEN THEY GOT THEM THEY DEFLATED?????/
IM NOT HERE TO HATE BUT TO EDUCATE..THIS DOES HAPPEN A LOT AND SOME OF THE BIGGEST BREEDERS DO THIS. THEY WILL TELL YOU THAT YOUR DOG WILL LOOK LIKE THIS, BUT IN REALITY THERE IS NO WAY AT ALL...
I PERSONALLY HAVE SHOT UP SEVERAL PEOPLES DOGS FOR THEM BACK IN THE DAY. THIS BEFORE ACTUALLY KNOWING WHAT WAS BEING DONE. IF YOU HAVE HEARD THAT THEY USED B12 SHOTS, THATS NOT B12. LOL.
IT DOES INCREASE THE APPETITE AND MAKE THE DOG GET BIGGER. BUT IF ABUSED THIS AND OTHER STEROIDS CAN DESTROY A DOG IN MANY WAYS....WE HAVE ALL SEEN IT AND NOW I WANT TO KNOW DO YOU THINK THIS IS CHEATING THE BREED???

Training........

The training of a dog can be approached with a million different methods just to accomplish the same goals; I’m not going to go into it real deep on how to actually train your dog many others have and have done a great job writing about it, but I am about to tell you what I do and how I go about training my dogs.

I take a totally different approach to the training of my dogs, and again I say “every dog is an individual and has its own individual needs”; meaning when I first think about getting a dog I figure out what sex Male or Female and what the dogs projected purpose will be.  Show, agility, protection, obedience, or just a pet; this helps me foresee the correct way to train this individual dog.  Although some of the dogs may have a main job like protection, obedience, or whatever it may be; I feel they should be treated as pets.

One suggestion I have for everyone is to do your homework, learn about the breed or mix you are getting before you actually get the dog it is always good to try and understand your breed or breeds (mixes) characteristics like:

Digging

Barking

Jumping

Nipping (it’s a difference between a nip and a bite)

This in the long run will help you find the correct way to train your dog or fix unwanted behaviors if any; but keeping in mind that every dog is a individual and the training may need to be adjusted to fit that dog.

All my dogs learn the basics:COME, SIT, LAY, STAY

Some say what about heel?  I feel all dogs or pups should walk at your side at all times unless they were told to be out front, that’s just me.  The reason I say all dogs learn the basics is because it is just that the basics, the building blocks to any intended goal.  One of my favorite reference books on the basics of dog training is The Koehler Method of Dog Training by William Koehler.  A really good read!

Ear Cropping............

So your thinking about getting your pups ears cropped.  The first thing you will want to do is ask your pup's breeder about ear cropping.  A lot of the time the breeder will have a place to have them done for about $200 to $300, or at least recommend you somewhere to have them done. Prices for ear cropping can vary from under $200 to well over $1,200 a set.  Look take it from me price does not always equal quality; make sure you get references and pictures of the style of crop you want that, that vet has done prior to you getting your dogs ears cropped.  I normally wait until the dog is at least 9 weeks old and no older than 16 weeks of age when cropped.  Most of the time I take my pups in when they are 12 weeks of age, however if the pups ears stand already I get them done around 9 or 10 weeks of age if the vet will do them. The hard part about ear cropping is getting the ears to stand in some taller crop sets.

 When it’s time to  take your pup in take a picture or two of dogs with the crop you like so the vet can see exactly what cropping style you want. Some vets crop every dog the same way, while others crop to the look you want. This is where prior crop photos come into play, you’re able to see and judge whether or not you will like the crop and want that vet to do the job.  With any surgery that requires anesthesia, there are risks involved. Chances are low that there will be a problem but things do happen, so be prepared and be aware.  Once the cropping surgery is all over, there can still be issues like:

Infection

Poor healing

Scarring

I feel these issues most times are the fault of the owner, and YES sometimes these issues just cannot be prevented although the best ear care was given.  You as the owner must be prepared to put a great deal of care, time, and effort into getting those ears to heal and stand properly.

Show Dogs............

When working with my dogs I stack (have my dogs stand squarely and still) and work on gating (have my dogs move in a way to allows the judge to see their movement and structure) for about 5 to15 minutes a day.  I start stacking my new pups the day I get them so the pup becomes accustomed to it quickly. If I bred this particular pup I start stacking as soon as the pups are able to stand strong on their own. I think the key to having a great show dog is building a personal relationship meaning; talk to your dog different “oh excellent, you looking sexy, oh yea, they staring at you baby”, spend extra riding time and introducing your dog to as many new people as possible, stacking your dog when greeting someone new and make sure you get some kids in there this goes a long way when in the show ring. Things like that, your dog will respect (trust) you more for doing it. Inside the show ring they will demand all eyes on them showing everyone that you as the handler and the dog itself are on the same page.
